I am looking to purchase a locking metal cabinet and a minimum of 20 pairs of athletic shoes in order to start a Shoe Shed at my elementary school. I am a physical education teacher for grades K-5. My school has a large number of economically disadvantaged students. These students often come to school in sandals, slippers, boots, flip-flops or other shoes that are falling apart, too small, or simply unsafe for my class. Rather than have students wear other people's hand-me-downs or donated shoes, I want to give them a collection of new, exciting, and most importantly safe and appropriate footwear to borrow for their time in PE. Physical activity and social interaction is such a huge part of student growth and development. These students should have to miss out because of their footwear.
