This project will provide flexible and active seating options for a 2nd grade classroom of 22 students at Brown City Community Schools. Many young learners struggle with sitting still for long periods, which can affect focus and engagement. Research shows that movement-friendly seating, such as yoga ball chairs and active cushions, helps reduce restlessness, improve attention, and support learning. With this grant, the classroom will add two balance chairs, one yoga ball chair, and 16 active seat cushions. These tools give every student access to comfortable, movement-based seating choices that support self-regulation and focus during lessons. Students will rotate through options to find what works best for them, fostering equity and inclusion. By improving engagement and comfort, this project will enhance daily learning across all subjects and provide sustainable seating solutions for years to come.
