Every day in 6th grade math, students are asked to think, problem-solve, explain their reasoning, and learn from one another. My project will provide the classroom supplies needed to make collaboration more efficient and meaningful. The supplies I purchase through this grant will be used throughout the curriculum to give students more opportunities to collaborate, share strategies, and make their mathematical thinking visible.Although the supplies may seem simple, they will make a significant difference in the classroom. Many of the supplies will help to create an organized environment where students will have quick access to the materials they need. I will be able to spend less time passing out and collecting supplies, which will give students have more time for problem solving. These supplies will help to make the daily math lessons more engaging, collaborative, and student centered.
