I teach 8th Grade STEM at the University K-12 Academy campus on W. 12 Mile Rd. At the end of this school year, we will leave our current campus to prepare for the demolition of it and the build of a new state-of-the-art STEM campus. Originally, our campus housed the Southfield-Lathrup High School. After the school closed in 2016, University High School Academy and MacArthur K-8 Academy moved into the space until the Spring of 2024, when the two schools merged to become what is now the University K-12 Academy. Once the building is demolished, with it will go memories of it and the image of its imposing presence on W. 12 Mile. My 8th Grade STEM class would like to design and create a scale model of the current campus as a physical, tangible keepsake of the original Southfield/Lathrup HIgh School and University K-12 Academy to be placed in the lobby of the new University K-12 Academy campus upon its completion.
