I started a sports officiating class this fall. I have 27 students in the class now and will run two more section in the spring with another 40 or so. We would use the grant money to help the students get started in their new avocation. Funding would also allow us to have more to practice with in class above what I have collected over the years. Like most jobs, officiating sports, at any level, requires some training. In addition to the training, there are uniforms and equipment necessary to perform the job. The class we are running was funded by the school district for the first time this fall. I have officiated high school baseball, football, and volleyball over the last 25 plus years. We are using a platform called RefReps to help me train the student in the sports. I am responsible for helping them build the soft skills and plugging them into the communities to work.
