I work with students with severe emotional impairments in a center-based special education program. Many of my students have limited opportunities for meaningful experiences that build confidence, responsibility, and important life skills. For this reason, art and animal care have become an important part of our classroom. Both provide valuable opportunities for engagement, emotional regulation, creativity, empathy, and positive relationships. I frequently purchase discounted art materials with my own money to keep these opportunities available. Our classroom animals are also supported through personal funds and donations. Our chinchillas were generously donated, but many of their supplies and habitat items now need replacement. Grant funding would allow us to purchase art materials and improve our animals' habitat while teaching students proper animal care, responsibility, and respect for living things. Your support would provide meaningful, hands-on experiences that help our students.
