Learning Together: Family Learning Backpacks

I am requesting $750 to create ten Family Learning Backpacks for my students with autism and their families. Inspired by lending kits available at public libraries, each backpack will focus on a different area: emotions, communication, numbers and counting, shapes and colors, same/different and size concepts, money and basic math, daily living, social skills, science, and sensory regulation. Each kit will include reusable games, manipulatives, visual supports, books, and hands-on activities adapted to different learning levels. Students will borrow a backpack for one to two weeks to use at home with parents, siblings, or caregivers. This is more than homework. It gives families meaningful ways to play, communicate, and learn together while helping students practice classroom skills in everyday life. The backpacks will be returned, cleaned, and circulated throughout the year, making this a sustainable resource for many students and families.
