Symbolic Animal Adoption
Masonic Heights Elementary School
My class would like to symbolically adopt an animal from World Wildlife fund. I have done this in the past and collected donations from parents, but with the current climate I thought it was not going to be possible this year- until now! Every year I teach my kindergarten students about three animals and then we vote on which one we would like to adopt. This is when I incorporate reading, language, technology, science and math. Then through out the year we continue to use our adopted animal to learn about habitats and writing. With a symbolic adoption we receive a stuffed animal (which then becomes our 'class pet'), an adoption certificate, a gift bag, a species photo and information card. This becomes a beloved pet every year and fosters an incredible amount of learning and engagement. Plus, the funds go to World Wildlife Fund which in turn takes care of animals! **The photo is from our class pet last year- a tiger the kids named "Tiger Miger".
