My project will transform my classroom into a sensory-safe learning environment where middle school students learn math, younger students practice yoga and mindfulness, and students needing sensory breaks can reset and refocus. This innovative space blends academic rigor with social-emotional support, fostering focus, self-regulation, and engagement.
With this grant, IâÂÂll introduce flexible seating, sensory tools, and interactive technology to promote choice, movement, and comfortâÂÂessential for learning and inclusion. These tools will support math instruction, academic seminar lessons on executive functioning, and mindfulness sessions that build attention and resilience.
Expected outcomes include improved focus, reduced stress, and greater student ownership of learning.
Itemized list:
Flexible seating (wobble stools, floor cushions)
Sensory tools (fidgets, weighted lap pads, sensory lighting)
Yoga mats
Interactive technology (ipad with apple pencil)
