The Sensory Sanctuary is a transformative initiative designed to support the holistic development of students in our extended resource room. Rooted in principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), trauma-informed care, and neurodiversity-affirming practices, this project aims to create a dedicated, structured sensory space that fosters emotional regulation, cognitive readiness, and self-directed coping strategies. Our students need environments that honor their neurological profiles and empower them to thrive. The Sensory Sanctuary will serve as a therapeutic oasis within the class: a calming, accessible space where students can reset, refocus, and re-engage with learning. Students will be taught to use the space proactively, through co-regulation strategies, social-emotional learning lessons, and individualized sensory profiles. Anticipated Outcomes: Increased time on task and academic engagement Reduction in behavioral and emotional incidents Improved self-regulation and coping
