Books for the Mind AND Heart
Southfield High School for the Arts and Technology
I teach students who have autism. Our district is virtual right now, and we do not know when we will be able to return. In school, I rely on high interest literature to teaching reading. However, it has proven very difficult for me to teach using literature on a computer screen. My students needs to have a book in front of them to avoid the distractions that the computer/ipad screen present. Many of my students have been experiencing issues with wifi connectivity. Having a print book in front of them will minimize those roadblocks, allow them to strengthen their reading skills at home, and allow them to experience the pleasure and power of reading. Each of my students has an IEP goal focusing on reading. These books will allow me to work towards those goals ands meet my students' needs.
