Using the Mail to Connect Teacher and Students
Carver STEM Academy
Due to the pandemic, I will be teaching virtually. This new frontier requires me to connect with my students in new and creative ways. In school, I celebrated each childís birthday by giving them a book, birthday necklace, and a small treat. The look on their faces as they receive their gifts is priceless, and I am worried about not having that connection with the virtual learning. I am requesting a grant to cover postage and supplies so I can mail small packages to my studentsí homes to continue recognizing their special day. I would also like to send small crafts for Thanksgiving and Christmas (if they recognize them), along with Motherís Day and Fatherís Day. These types of things I have done my entire 24 year career. I realize what Iím asking for do may not impact student achievement directly. What I am absolutely sure about is that reaching out to students in this manner will benefit a childís social and emotional development, and this outreach will help them feel connected to me.
