The "Order of Operations Hospital" project transforms the standard 5.OA.1 lesson on the order of operations into a hands-on, interactive experience. Students will take on the roles of "math surgeons," tasked with "saving patients" by accurately following the order of operations. Each step of solving a math problem will be treated like a crucial move in a surgery, teaching students that precision is key to success. By using surgical gloves, doctor notes, and patient files (math problems), students will engage in collaborative and high-stakes learning that makes math feel urgent, real, and memorable.
