Students learn and retain more information when they are peacefully engaged in the present moment. With the addition of soft lighting and a nature-based environment, a calm classroom setting will encourage lower heart rate and enhance problem solving skills. As a result of this project, I expect to see reduced stress, improved attention and less headaches. If awarded a grant, I will be able to implement calming focal points and add soft furnishings to help absorb loud sounds. This project will offer a serene, balanced environment during reading and writing. By bringing plants, and fluorescent light coverings into the classroom, reading will become an enjoyable comfort to students.
