I noticed my students have come in with a variety of social and emotional struggles. Some students display crippling anxiety, lack of social skills, and even depression at such a young age. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a lot of my students missed out on valuable schooling in which they would've learned both social and emotional skills. I want to bridge their social-emotional gap in my classroom with a variety of books and cozy seating arrangements in which my students will be able to learn more about their feelings and how to identify them as well as how to self-regulate. I want to create a safe, cozy, and nurturing environment for my students to feel comfortable in their classroom while also equipping them with the necessary supplies (books, sensory items, etc.) to move through their emotions in a healthy way while gaining lifetime skills. The sustainable materials from this grant will not only help this year's learners, it will also aid in helping students for many years to come!
