Dwight Rich, our K-8 combined school of 700 students, includes approximately 90 with autism, cognitive impairments, mobility challenges, and blindness. Currently, autistic students use the small preschool playground, while students in wheelchairs are lined up in the shade, lacking access to sensory regulation materials or adaptive activities to learn and grow with peers. This grant will fund sensory and adaptive equipment, allowing students to regulate their sensory systems and interact with peers through adaptive activities. Sensory tools will provide proprioceptive and vestibular input, helping students achieve a calm, focused state for social interaction. Children with mobility or visual impairments will engage in inclusive activities. We believe inclusive play will enhance studentsâ mental and physical well-being, fostering a sense of community.
