The Ebersole Center is an Outdoor Education Center that is owned by the Lansing School district. We host a variety of classroom extension experiences, but have begun to standardize the 3rd grade experience and have identified a few specific activities that we would like to bolster for these frequent trips with various 3rd grade groups in our district. In these visits, we hone the focus down to animal adaptations and survival to align with their classroom curriculum. One activity that we do with students to show adaptations is dissecting owl pellets. We would like to improve this activity by purchasing a variety of bird skull replicas to give a hands-on opportunity to examine bird beaks, and how different birds have adapted to different niches. We would also like to include some posters and ID charts for owl information and owl pellet dissection, including a great horned owl informational poster, owl pellet formation poster, owl pellet ID charts, and Owl Pellet flip charts.
