! I am a third year Catholic Theology teacher at Brother Rice High School, a Catholic College Preparatory School for young men, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Our student body is diverse in faith, race, and ethnicity. My goal is for students to see themselves represented by saints worldwide. Another element of Christianity that resonates with students is art. Christ and Marian images worldwide are often depicted in the artistâs ethnicity. When discussing one aspect of knowing there is a God, we discuss beauty recognized universally. They view artistic interpretations of Christ and Mary from several countries. I hope to populate my rather sterile walls with faces of saints, Christ, and Marian images that represent my studentsâ diverse backgrounds. Catholic means âuniversalâ and indeed the Faith invites every human being. The grant funds will be used to populate the class with art by hanging posters and having informational handouts students can keep.
