Literature and Lunch
School: Rodgers Elementary
At Rodgers Elementary we proudly service many different students. In our MoCI (Moderately Cognitively Impaired) classroom we teach students who learn differently than their general education peers. Part of the program is life skill teaching which includes cooking. As the Speech-Language Pathologist for this classroom I am incorporating literature, language and life skills by starting a Literature and Lunch program. During the week we will read a book (Ex: If You Give a Mouse a Cookie), complete some language activities related to that book (answering questions, sequencing events in the book, etc) and then on Friday we will learn to cook the item related to the book. We will be teaching math skills, life skills, language skills and literacy skills in this one task. We are very excited and appreciate the opportunity to receive a grant in order to cover the costs associated with the project such as books, language activities and cooking materials.
