When building a learning environment within a classroom setting there are many components that make it a success. This directly impacts student achievement. I would like to offer my students more choice within their seating, reading, writing, mathematics, and social studies though the use of flexible seating and building an interactive learning area. By giving students more control in the classroom they are able to take ownership of their own learning. The use of flexible seating builds problem solving skills and higher order thinking skills. One of the ways to create lifelong learners is to captivate their literacy interest by finding books, activities and resources that are appealing to all learners. I would utilize these funds to purchase additional flexible seating, literacy materials and supplies. Therefore, building a strong community within the classroom where the classroom is “ours” and not the teachers.
