At Pioneer Middle School, we are making a concerted effort to recognize students who have a positive impact on our school community. Too many times we focus on what students are doing wrong, instead of what they are doing right. As part of our Positivity Project, teachers can nominate students who go above and beyond for their classmates or school. The main theme behind the Positivity Project is "Other people matter". By developing a positive school community, and recognizing/reinforcing positive behaviors, we are improving student behavior and student mental health. A $750 grant would allow us to buy 150 ($5 gift cards) to give to students who have earned a positive referral. In addition to the gift card, we call each student's family and recognize them for their efforts. We did this program last year and it was a great success. We would like to keep the momentum going and keep encouraging students to make a difference in our community.
