Minerals and Fluorescent
School: Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran School
The MSGCU grant will provide the funds to purchase a mineral set with Fluorescent minerals that are professionally curated with clear examples and accurate identification and a long & short-wave UV lamp. The mineral set and lamp would allow for hands-on interaction, the exploration of the physical properties, and the identification of minerals adding interest and clarity to multiple science concepts.According to research, having minerals to manipulate students will develop experimental observational skills, enhance their scientific inquiry, and allow students to explain a phenomenon. In my classroom, I want to set up learning centers to allow small groups of students to explore mineral properties. Students will then use their experimental observations and what they figured out with their small groups to support analyzing and interpreting data on the distribution of rocks around Earth (MI & NGSS MS-ESS2-3).
