Building fine motor skills
School: Beacon Tree Elementary
Students in my Early Childhood Special Education class range in age from 3 to 5 years old. All of these children have an individualized education plan requiring specialized instruction and materials to increase developmental skills in areas such as communication, socialization, academics, gross and fine motor. We implement Table Time each day which focuses on fine motor development and pre-writing activities. I would love to enhance our Table Time activities with toys and materials that will engage our children, improve fine motor functioning and provide sensory experience. These materials would include a variety of manipulatives such as play-doh, Thera- putty, clay, sand and foam. As well as learning toys such as inset and handle puzzles, pegs and building blocks, small object stacking and sorting, lacing, and tongs, etc. These additional materials would provide engagement and hands-on age appropriate daily activities to build fine motor skills.
