Bringing Detroit Kids To The Rainforest
School: Turning Point Academy
In my classroom, I work with special needs students from Detroit. Due to poverty and dealing with special needs, many of our students have never had the opportunity to visit our local city attractions. So each month, we plan an educational outing as a reward within our PBIS (positive behavioral intervention support) framework. We have visited the Detroit Zoo, Belle Isle Nature Center, Sea Life Aquarium and this time, the students have earned a trip to the Rainforest Café. Our K-12 students have studied animals, habitats, and conservation in their respective science classes, and this is a perfect culminating event for them. The academic-based tour offered at Rainforest Cafe will provide my students with an on-site expert jungle guide who will take them through the thick of the rainforest and teach them about various creatures and plants in the jungle. Please consider supporting this exciting experience! Thank you!
