Universal Supports in the Classroom, Second Grade
School: Simonds Elementary School
My second graders deserve the materials and various classroom supports to allow them to be successful. Providing Universal Supports in our classroom allows all student needs to be met, especially students with visual, emotional and physical challenges. Universal supports such as stand up desks, lap pads, slant boards, monoculars, magnifiers and individual timers, specialized seating such as wedges or stools, desktop charts, speech-to-text reader C-Pen, colored overlays, and Orton Gillingham Dyslexia supports will provide what students need to learn productively everyday. These tools will set all of my students up for success by enhancing their learning and their focus. This gives them opportunities to take charge of their learning and make choices in our classroom that would work the best for their growth. My students are important to me and having a space that is inviting, comfortable, and recognizes individual student needs is an essential part of keeping learning fun and exciting!
