Preschool can be overwhelming. There’s so much to do, so much to discover, and so many new people to socialize with. And this all happens in a much newer environment than what most young children are used to. Our preschoolers would benefit from having a calming “Cozy Corner” in our classroom where they can give themselves a simple break from it all. They can use this designated area to play with quiet fidget items, look at a story book, or participate in soothing sensory activities alone or with a friend or teacher. This area can be used to help children re-regulate their big emotions, work on their belly breathing, or to just provide a quieter space when they need it. The large pillows would provide comfort for their body, while the sensory items and books would provide comfort for their mind. This would be a space that they can travel to freely without judgement.
