Build a Teaching Grid for Lighting Design
School: Henry Ford II High School
I teach theatre & stagecraft. Lighting design & execution is an art based on reading & geometry. We currently do projects on paper and try focusing lights in the theatre. However, all the theatre lights are constantly used for shows & other events. I don't have extra equipment to give all students hands-on experiences with designing, programming & focusing lights while being able to run the facilities as needed. I want to purchase used 4 Source Four Leko 19-50 degree lights. With these, I can build a small teaching grid within the larger grid. These lights can be patched into the designing board for programming. All stagecraft students would have the opportunity to experience creating a lighting design based on literature, calculating the angles of the lights, and then executing their designs. I have about 80 students in stagecraft (which counts as a senior math class). However, the ability to do this project would exist in perpetuity. I can take more pictures. I don't have any now.
