Hello! I'm Ms. Danford! I teach a self contained class for students with special needs related to the autism spectrum. Hands on learning is one of the best ways to engage diverse and neurodivergent learners. This year I would like to have an opportunity to use this grant money to take my class of 5 students to places around the community to practice social, math, reading, language, and safety skills in a real life setting. Specifically, I would like them to be able to visit; 5 Below or Dollar Tree to shop for gifts around the holidays, IHOP to practice ordering and paying for food and service, a bowling alley to use our motor skills and social skills to engage with others, the Royal Oak Public Library for reading and language practice, and the Detroit Zoo for fun and to practice safety skills! Thank you for your consideration!
