Speak AAC to Teach AAC!
School: Kingsley Montgomery School
I am a speech language pathologist at the amazing Kingsley Montgomery School in Waterford. At Kingsley, I service students of all ages that have severe disabilities including emotional impairment, physical and cognitive. At our school we focus on what our students can do, what they can achieve and how the staff can help them reach their goals! I would love to provide my students with visual modeling to improve their communication and in order to do that I need an iPad that all my students can have access too. I would use this incredible grant opportunity to purchase an iPad and two communication apps (one-time purchase), each of which are utilized by most of the nonverbal students at Kingsley Montgomery. One app is called TouchChat and the other is SimPODD. The most important way to encourage communication using AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) is to speak it, which is difficult when I don't have access to it! Thank you for this opportunity to provide for my students!
