This project aims to enhance literacy skills through a thematic inquiry into Michiganâs local history, combining English Language Arts (ELA) with social studies. Students will engage in shared reading activities using primary source documents, such as letters, photographs, and maps, to explore key historical events in Michigan. By analyzing these documents, students will develop reading comprehension, critical thinking, and research skills. The project will culminate in students creating their own written narratives based on their research, further reinforcing their literacy and understanding of Michiganâs past.
