We are an older Severely Cognitively Impaired classroom. One of our classroom projects is running the garden. We have apple trees, strawberries, tomatoes, cucumber, sunflowers, and much more. Our classroom incorporates our fruits and vegetables from the garden to our cooking projects. We use the growing process for our Science and Nature lessons, we work on our fine motor skills and sensory while planting and watering the garden. We learn about animals in Nature, the importance of bees, and what creatures like garden foods. We also work on our team building skills and collaboration with other rooms. Our classroom would use this grant money for gardening supplies such as shovels, rakes, hoes, and a wagon to help with the continuous upkeep of the Bovenschen Community Garden. These would be helpful to our program to help students with dexterity and sensory while running our garden program.
