Communication on the playground!
School: Hamilton Elementary
My students are typically not able to verbally communicate. They depend on voice output devices or other types of technology (low to high tech) to assist in communication. My students use their devices to access the necessary core words in order to make requests or to communicate a need. When we are at recess, communication becomes a bit more challenging as it is difficult to hold onto to the voice output device and play at the same time. We would like to purchase an Outdoor 32 Core Word display from Oakland Schools that would be placed on the playground we primarily use. This display will allow our students (and other students) to communicate their wants and needs with others in an effective manner. This display will benefit the students in my special education classroom greatly, but it will also benefit typically developing younger students who may be shy or quiet. I really appreciate this opportunity to be able to write this grant proposal.
