I am a Physical Education teacher at Webb Elementary, Hazel Park School District. My school houses several self-contained classes. We have two SXI classes, upper and lower, and two CI classes, upper and lower. We are also working on splitting our ASD class into two. This is my second year teaching in this building. I spent all last year trying to develop ideas to help the special needs students meet their PT and OT goals through my PE class. The one thing that all the classes loved was climbing and sliding outside in our contained adaptive playground. Unfortunately, we cannot be outside for several months in Michigan. I could keep them engaged all winter by purchasing an obstacle course bounce house. This year, I'd also like to incorporate fine motor lessons in my PE class. I would need to buy several tools for the students to work on fine motor skills in PE. Our district is economically challenged, and funding for these activities is unavailable.
