Our current building, and district as a whole, is behind in the implementation of Next Generation Science Standards within the science department. NGSS teaching is unlike any previously held teaching standards in that it centralizes around the idea of student inquiry, investigation, and innovation to modern scientific issues. NGSS is a student-centered curriculum that allows students to create, discuss, model, and investigate phenomena to uncover the truths of state standards expected of them. In implementing this there is a demand for resources that require building the models and allowing for investigations to occur in a hands on way. There will be no lectures and note taking as the primary way our middle schoolers learn, instead we want to give them experiences that develop critically important foundations prior to their high school experience. This grant would allow for classroom supplies and teacher training, such as NGSX, to best inform teachers on these incredible practices.
